Glowing skin is an achievable goal if you follow a few basic rules.
Toxins in the environment bioaccumulate in our tissues. Not only do they affect our general wellbeing, but they also impair on our skins ability to maintain radiance and rejuvenate itself.
There are 3 main requirements to keep your skin in optimal condition.
Keep it clean.. Nourish it, then protect it!
By following a few simple steps, you'll be well on your way to maintaining healthy skin throughout your life.
Radiant Skin Checklist:
Cleanse, hydrate and moisturise twice a day
Always remove your makeup prior to sleep to avoid breakouts
Exfoliate with a gentle exfoliant two- three times a week
Use a clay mask or hydrating treatment masque at least once a week
If you wear makeup regularly, be sure to give your skin an adequate break with some days off
Begin the day by drinking a large glass water with a squeeze of lemon to alkalise the system
Keep hydrated! Your skin contains up to 65% water. We lose around one litre a day through perspiration, so drink a minimum 2 litres of water per day.
Avoid the sun, especially between 10am and 3pm. A bit of Vitamin D is necessary so 15 minites out of this time zone without protection is good medicine. Wear a har and a long sleeve shirt outdoors especially in the summer months.
Use a non-nano zinc-based chemical free sunscreen daily to block out UVA and UVB rays.
Eat whole foods - organic fruits and vegetables raw or lightly steamed.
Cut down and minimise dairy, sugar, pre packaged foods and wheat-based products,
Limit meat consumption and only eat organic meat
Minimise alcohol consumption. If you like a glass of wine at night to wind down, drink red instead, due to the beneficial properties.
Avoid using soap on the face, as this creates a drying effect by removing the skins natural oils, therefore unbalancing natural oil secretions.
Aim for 30 minutes of exercise
Aim for 20 minutes daily relaxation/ meditation
Sleep - Unless you're the 1% of the population with the appropriate genetic predisposition, you require 7 - 8 hours a night of adequate rest and sleep. Lack of sleep reduces the efficiency of cell regeneration and detoxification that occurs at night time. during the middle of the night, the biological rhythm of your hormones and cells impacts on skin rejuvenation, so make sure you're getting enough sleep.
